INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLANS
"An IEPis a documented plan developed for a student with special needs that describes individualized goals, adaptations, modifications, the services to be provided and includes measures for tracking accuracy." (MOE)
Purpose of an IEP
The Ministry of Education states the purpose of an IEP as follows:
* formalizing planning, decisions, and processes, linking assessments with programming.
* provides teachers, parents, and students with the record of their educational program for a student with special needs.
* serves as a basis for reporting the student's progress,
* tool for tracking individual student's goals and objectives
* documents relationships between any support services being provided by the IEP.

Essentials of an IEP
According to the MOE (Ministry of Education, an IEP must include one or more of the following:
* individualized goals for the student - different from the prescribed curriculum outcomes for the course or subject.
