There are five different subtypes of Autism spectrum disorder: Autism, Aspergers Disorder, Childhood disintegrative Disorder, PDD-NOS, and Rett Syndrome.

Aspergers Syndrome:  A neurodevelopment disability that affects the ability to interact and communicate with people effectively.  Symptoms include repetitive motor patterns, difficulty in assessing others' feelings and reading others, poor muscle coordination, problems understanding humor or sarcasm, and being sensitive to noise, touch, odor, or tastes.

Autism Disorder: a neurological and developmental disorder that usually appears during the first three years of life. A child with Autism appears to live in their own world. They show little interest in others and lack social awareness. Their focus is on a consistent routine, including an interest in repeating odd and peculiar behaviors.

Childhood disintegrative Disorder: A condition characterized by the loss of previously acquired language, motor, and social skills, or late onset of developmental delay, also known as Heller's syndrome.
